1. Who we are
Duo ("we", "us") is a couples relationship app that helps two partners connect through a shared journal, saved memories, special dates, relationship exercises, and a private AI companion. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

2. Data we collect
- Account data — your name, email address, and profile photo, provided when you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Shared couple content — journal entries, saved memories, special dates, love-language quiz results, relationship health check-ins, milestones, and conflict-mediation text you choose to write. Content marked as shared is visible to you and your paired partner only.
- Private content — your personal notes and your conversations with the Duo AI companion. These are visible only to you — never to your partner.
- Device data — a push-notification token so we can send you reminders you have enabled.
- Feedback — messages and ratings you voluntarily send us through the in-app feedback form.
3. How we use your data
- To provide the app's features: pairing with your partner, syncing shared content between your two devices, streaks, reminders, and milestones.
- To power AI features (AI companion, conflict mediation, date ideas): the relevant text is processed at request time by Google's Generative Language API and the response is returned to you.
- We never use your personal content to train AI models. Personalization is done only with request-time context from your own account.
- To send optional reminders (journal, special dates, check-ins) that you can turn off at any time in Settings.
4. What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never show your private notes or AI conversations to your partner or anyone else.
- We never use your journals, conversations, or mediation text for advertising or model training.
5. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) on Google Cloud infrastructure, protected by authentication and security rules that restrict every record to you and — for shared content — your paired partner. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google Cloud.
6. Sharing with third parties
We use the following processors, solely to operate the app:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, cloud functions, and push notifications.
- Google Generative Language API — processes AI requests at the moment you make them.
No other third party receives your personal data.
7. Your choices and rights
- Unpair — you can disconnect from your partner at any time in Settings; this separates your shared space.
- Delete your account — Settings → Delete account permanently removes your account and personal data. You can also email us to request deletion of all data associated with your account.
- Clear AI memory — you can view what the AI companion has learned about you and clear your conversation at any time inside the app.
- Notifications — every reminder can be switched off in Settings.
- Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR in the EU), you may also have rights of access, rectification, portability, and objection. Email us to exercise them.
8. Data retention
Your content is kept while your account is active so the app can work. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed. Feedback messages may be kept in anonymized form to improve the app.
9. Children
Duo is a relationship app intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Not a substitute for professional help
Duo's AI features offer general relationship guidance and are not a substitute for professional therapy, counseling, or crisis support. If the app detects a safety concern, it shows professional support resources instead of AI advice.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above, and notify you in the app where appropriate.
